Alabama head coach Nick Saban stepped outside of his role in college football this week to call on West Virginia senator Joe Manchin. Saban, along with several other prominent athletics figures from the state, signed a letter endorsing the passage of the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act.

Nick Saban and his wife, Terry, are natives of the Mountain State. Democratic Senator Joe Manchin and the rest of his colleagues are debating the new voting rights bill on Tuesday. Manchin and Arizona Senator Kyrsten Sinema are currently the holdouts in the Democratic Party. Both have expressed, in no uncertain terms, that they do not support undermining the filibuster to get around Republican opposition to the bill. ----- Michael Li 李之樸
